The entire surface is first fully gilded with genuine 23.74 kt gold on top of an urushi layer, creating a continuous precious‑metal base beneath the sculpted lacquer relief. During the finishing stage, the raised peaks of the texture are carefully shaved and polished, revealing the pure urushi surface on the tops while the gold remains only in the recessed areas. This produces a striking contrast: dark polished urushi on the highs and warm, luminous gold in the lows.
The gilded recesses are sealed with a thin layer of zapon lacquer, ensuring long‑term stability and preserving the crisp definition of the pattern.
The sheet features a refined matte finish, giving the surface a subtle, elegant character while maintaining a tactile, handcrafted feel.
Reinforced with aircraft‑grade plywood backing, providing excellent stability, strength, and clean edge finishing while keeping the sheet lightweight and easy to work with.
